A grand temple complex celebrating Indian art, devotion, and heritage.
Akshardham Temple, located on the banks of the Yamuna River in East Delhi, is one of the largest Hindu temple complexes in the world. Opened on 6 November 2005, it was built by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) under the guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, inspired by HH Yogiji Maharaj.
Dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, the temple showcases traditional Indian architecture with intricately carved sandstone and marble, grand domes, and ornate pillars. The central monument houses a majestic idol of Swaminarayan, surrounded by sculptures of deities, sages, and spiritual figures. Beyond being a place of worship, Akshardham is a cultural hub, featuring exhibitions on Indian history and spirituality, a musical fountain symbolizing the cycle of life, and an IMAX-style theatre narrating inspiring stories. Its design draws from ancient texts and craftsmanship, making it a modern yet timeless tribute to India’s spiritual heritage.
Early morning hours are recommended, as temperatures are cooler and crowds fewer. Certain areas may temporarily restrict access during prayer times.
There is no mandatory ticketing system at the temple. Entry charges shown are indicative only and used for representation purposes.
Suggested Donation Range: $1.00 to $5.00. Donations can be made voluntarily at designated donation points within the temple complex.
